Obituary For Christopher Frickert

Mr. Christopher Frickert, 69 a resident of Fredonia passed away Friday, February 14th at Diversicare Living Center in Lanett.

The funeral service will be on Friday, February 21st, at Fredonia Methodist Church. Visitation at 10:00 AM EST and the funeral service following at 11 AM EST.

The interment will be in the church cemetery.

Beloved friend and husband, Honorable Christopher Frickert of Fredonia, Alabama was called to heaven on February 14th. He passed peacefully at Diversicare in Lanett. A living miracle of God’s healing, he had been diagnosed in September of 2005 with terminal cancer and given two years to live. He had been cancer free since September 2010. His life was defined by a sharing of his testimony of God’s greatness in healing him of terminal cancer. He lived every day knowing God’s loving gifts to him were to be shared with others and to tell them that cancer did not prevail over his life. He lived an abundant life in the grace and mercy of God.

His family moved to LaGrange, Georgia during his senior year of high school. He attended LaGrange Senior High School. Upon graduating, he went to work at Rubbermaid. His passion was automobiles, though, and Bill Johnson Motor Company hired him on as their front-end specialist. Soon, he became knowledgeable in all aspects of vehicle maintenance. He furthered his knowledge by going to work for E.H. Baker of Baker Batteries restoring and building alternators and generators. Chris could fix anything. His talent was recognized and he acquired a position at LaGrange Toyota where he worked for several years as an ASE certified master technician. After working as a production supervisor at a small manufacturing facility in LaGrange and then as an automotive tech in Columbus, Chris went to West Georgia Tech to further his education. There he took an automotive class and built the fastest engine on the LaGrange Police Department’s lot at the time. He moved on to get an electronics degree, graduating at the top of his class. His love of driving led him to CDL driving throughout several states for All Pro Towing. He really enjoyed the challenge of a multi-car carrier trailer and maneuvering a tow truck in a tightly packed lot.

For the past 12 years, Chris served in a non-paid position as a Fredonia Town Councilman. His love and support of the community was demonstrated in the various roles he served as: past Fredonia Community Club president, Fredonia Barbecue worker, and member of the Fredonia Heritage Association. He was a devout member of the Fredonia Methodist Church and worked diligently on the Free Fredonia Food Pantry project to work in a tangible way to serve his community. He actively participated in the Samaritan’s Purse Ministry working with the Operation Christmas Child shoebox project and several times volunteered at the distribution centers in Atlanta. Chris had the honor to serve on the Chambers County Grand Jury. He has also served as a volunteer at Camp Viola in Mountville, Georgia. Chris took mission trips to Florida when Hurricane Michael devastated the panhandle in 2018 and Beauregard, Alabama when the tornado tore through their small community in 2019. He organized the efforts and carried relief items to assist these communities in coping with everyday needs. Because he personally stayed at the Hope Lodge in Decatur, GA when undergoing treatment for cancer, his passion was to return to that facility and provide his services to prepare meals and give back to the patients undergoing treatment. It was important that they know his story, as it might provide hope for them and inspire them to do the same when they finish their treatment.

An avid rockhound, Chris was a member of the East Alabama Gem and Mineral Society in Opelika, Alabama. He loved traveling out west to Utah and Montana, picking up rocks everywhere. Just this year, he went to Arkansas to collect quartz crystals. Although Chris did not collect insulators, he accompanied his wife to insulator shows and was a member of the Dixie Jewels Insulator Club. As part of his mental and physical therapy, Chris made jewelry. He always gave the jewelry away to others, never asking for anything in return.

Married almost 45 years he is survived by his wife, Joanna Jane Naglee Frickert (JJ); one niece, and two nephews.

Preceded in joining the Lord are his mother and father, Mary Evelyn Frickert and Philip John Frickert, Jr.; and his brother and sister-in-law, Philip John Frickert III and Linda Toney Frickert.

Instead of flowers, those wishing to honor Chris's memory may contribute to the Fredonia Methodist Church.
