Annie Wilbur (Russell) Johnson began life on August 17, 1933, in Hogansville, Georgia. Annie or “Ms. Annie” as she was known within the neighborhood was the sixth child born to the late George and Carrie Russell. Ms. Annie was a faithful member of St. Mary United Methodist Church, the Church Choir, and Usher Board until her health failed. She kept her faith throughout her health issues and always talked about how God has kept her. Her faith in God was unshakable and as she always said “God Got Me.”
Annie was joined in holy matrimony to Honorable Willie Harold Johnson, her childhood sweetheart and today I truly believe they are celebrating their 68th Wedding Anniversary in Heaven. She attended West End High School where she played basketball. Annie worked in the Hogansville School System’s Cafeteria Service for many years until her retirement. During her life she had the opportunity to travel with her husband to Hawaii, Ft. Lewis, Washington and Okinawa, Japan and during those travels she made many friends that she kept and cultivated for numerous years. Annie was a great crafter, she enjoyed sewing, and baking and going shopping with her friends. When her health was at her best and even as her health was failing you could find her walking all over Hogansville. Annie was a very outspoken person. She saw the greatness in everyone and would do anything she could to help anyone in need.
Annie peacefully passed at her home on December 19, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie H. “Mike” Johnson, sisters, Allene Ross, Hailey Strozier and Lettie Lou Russell and brothers, Willie Andrew Russell, Sanders Ralph Russell, and George Calvin Russell. She leaves to cherish a multitude of happy memories to two daughters, Lucy and Sylvia Johnson, three sons, Sidney Michael (Mae) Johnson, Stanley, and Julian Marchiel (Tina) Johnson; eight Grandchildren, Kristin, Mercy, Garron, Brittney, Tabitha, Joshua, Marc, Onevious, Stanley and Nigel; five Great Grandchildren, Devin, Demetric, Davion, Kingston, Londyn and Skyler; two Great Great Children, Scarlet and Island; nieces, Endell, Lue Ann, Joan, Carrie, Joyce, Marilyn, Wanda (Carl), Sharron, Deborah, Felice, Sonya and nephew Hollis and Jimmy.
As a family, we would like to give a special acknowledgement to her grandson Stanley for his loyal support in taking care of his beloved grandmother. Also, we know her memory will be cherished by India Cameron, Reggie & Valerie Jackson and her family, and the Rutledge Family who took special care of her during her illness.
A special thanks to the WellStar Hospice in LaGrange, Georgia for their excellent care especially Nurse Natasha, CNA Alisa, Rev. John Evans and other members that graciously came out to help.
Arrangements entrusted to Thrash and Sons Funeral Home.
