Progressive Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing of Mr. Walter Crenshaw on February 3rd, 2021.
Mr. Walter C. Crenshaw was born January 28, 1940 in Rondo, Arkansas to hardworking and strict parents, Arthur and Vivian Crenshaw. Affectionately known as “Watt” by his 7 brothers and baby sister, he grew up during difficult times that were still filled with love, laughter and good times. At the age of 19, he joined the US Army in Little Rock. With a military career spanning nearly 30 years, he would travel the world, fight in the Vietnam war and serve his country with honor. He retired in 1986 as a Master Sergeant out of Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Mr. Crenshaw married his beautiful bride, Norma Jean Singleton in 1961. They did not have any sons. Instead, they would have five daughters, raised like soldiers, to carry on the Crenshaw legacy.
Mr. Crenshaw was a hardworking soldier, devoted husband, wonderful father, dedicated church member, a good friend and mentor to many. He had an infectious laugh and delightful smile. He would often tell stories to motivate and encourage others to serve the Lord, especially young people. He loved the Lord and was a long-time member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church where he served in various ministries like the Deacon Board, Sunday School and Prison Ministry. He enjoyed taking care of his family, his lawn and his cars.
Walter transitioned peacefully on February 3, 2021 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Vivian Crenshaw; brothers, James (Buster), Arthur (Sonny), Overtis, Leatrus, Ollie (OW), Square Benjamin (Buck); sister Cora; grandson Kevin Javan Nash; and granddaughter Kimberle Michaela Lemon.
Surviving to cherish his memory are: His loving wife, Norma Jean Crenshaw; five daughters, Cynthia Crenshaw, Patricia Dutchie (Robert), Sophia Nash (Chauncy), Katherine Crenshaw and P. Nicole Crenshaw; brother, Calvin Crenshaw; uncle Isaiah Jones; aunt Coresia Sheffield; six granddaughters, Ryan, Nikayla, Jasmyn, Airyn, Shannon and TaNia; one grandson, Kaiden; and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will truly miss him!
