SGM (Ret) Roy Lee Thornton passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the age of 72. He was born on November 20, 1951 to the late Ed Thornton and Doris Blackwell Thornton in Hartwell, Ga.
The Homegoing Celebration for SGM (Ret) Roy Thornton will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 9:00 AM at Sightseeing Road Church with interment at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 16, 2024 1 until 3:00 PM at Progressive.

I met Mr. Thornton for the first time in 1989 through his son James (JT), and JT and I have been best friends ever since. Mr. Thornton was consistently kind-hearted, and I always looked up to him as a wonderful role model. He was unfailingly warm and welcoming whenever I visited JT, which was often. The most recent encounter I had with Mr. Thornton and his wife was at a restaurant, where we talked and laughed just like old times. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to see him one last time, to witness his vibrant and infectious personality.
