Mrs. Julia M. Watkins was born on June 12, 1942, to the late John Willie Brown, Sr. and Daisy Brown Grant in Anniston, AL. She passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 17 years, CW2 James Willie Watkins.
She leaves to cherish her memory three devoted sons, Samuel Joseph Phillips, Jr., James “Derek” Watkins and Terrance “Jamal” Watkins; two bonus children, Ronald Watkins and Angela Watkins Turner.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 11:00 am ET at First African Baptist Church, Columbus, GA with burial on Fort Benning Main Post Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 7th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Progressive Funeral Home, Inc.

I too was touch by Mrs. Watkins at Carver High School (class 2003). So friendly.... So inspiring... definitely was business minded and encouraging of a young minded entrepreneur such as myself!!!
Always promoted that VICA- Skills USA... lol... and was so much more friendlier/welcoming then the FBLA sponsors Carver had at the time. I still have the shirt she embroider for me back then.... she was definitely a hustler!!!
Though our time together was Short... Thank You for your impact Mrs. Watkins!!!
Ms. Watkins was one of my ALL TIME favorite teachers while she taught me at Carver High School. She especially left an impression on me as the teacher mentor of the VICA club. It's part of why I've been a working hairstylist for 37 years.
To the family of Mrs. Julia M. Watkins, I send my sincerest condolences and love. May God Bless you with loving and fond-memories of her tenacity and strong-will.
