James C. Taylor 65, of 1026 Enoch Dr., Columbus, Ga passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by family, on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service and Interment will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 @ 11:00 A.M., at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery; 553 AL-165, Fort Mitchell, AL 36856, service officiated by Layperson Mrs. Minnie Carlisle.
James affectionately called “J.C. or Jake”, was born January 11, 1958, (12th of 13 children) to the late Mr. Clarence Taylor, Sr. and Mrs. Bessie M. Grant-Taylor. Educated in the Muscogee County School District System, J.C. graduated from William H. Spencer High School, Class of “1976”. J.C. loved sports, both watching and playing, during his high school years he played football and basketball, where he was a valuable player of the “Mighty GreenWave’s” team. James enlisted in the United States Army in 1976 and was honorably discharged in 1980. After his military service he returned home and began working various jobs before securing a position at Swift Spinning Mill, ultimately resulting in a career lasting 33 or more years. During his tenure he held several positions to include Spinning Operator Inspector, until the plant (Gildad) closed in 2019.
J.C. was a very generous person, always putting others' needs before his own, he would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. J.C. shared a special bond with his younger brother, Sylvester who he affectionately called “Bear”, though they had many disagreements, they always found their way back with no grudges. They’ve shared a resident since J.C. returned home from the military until his untimely death. J.C. loved getting the family together on special occasions, though, it was not uncommon to receive an invite to come over for a BBQ cookout or a weekend fish fry as he was a self-proclaimed master grill chef and master of the deep fryer. J.C. was a man of few words however, those few words would sometimes sting. He never wanted anyone to make a big deal celebrating him thus we had to secretly plan surprise events to celebrate him.
J.C. was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, Clarence & Bessie Taylor, a loving and devoted companion of 40 years Barbara A. Ghant; two brothers, Richard L. Taylor and Clarence Taylor, Jr.; a sister, Dorothy A. Taylor-Miles; two aunts Sarah P. Denson and Louise T. Jones (who raised him post the passing of his mother), a niece, Ackevia C. Powell-Jefferson; a nephew, Ulysses D. Williams and a special cousin Catherine Peppers.
J.C. leaves to cherish his memories: Son, Calvin T. Stanford (Jennifer); two grandsons, Quan and Elijah Stanford; three great-grands, Coltin, , Mila and Leil’lani Stanford all of Raleigh, North Carolina. three sisters, Bessie L. Watson, Lynda J.
