Mr. Samuel” Sam”G. Lanier, 76, of Valley, AL, gained his wings into eternal rest on May 14, 2024 at Baptist Hospital, Montgomery, AL.
Samuel Grover Lanier was born September 15, 1947 to the late Charles Samuel Lanier and Mable Lanier in Autauga County, Alabama. At and early age Samuel (Sam)accepted Christ and united with Figtree Baptist Church.
He received his early education in Autauga County and graduated from Autauga Training School class of 1965. Upon graduating from high school he started his career as a nationwide truck driver for over 40 years.
Throughout his career, Sam traveled countless miles, delivering goods and connecting communities across the country. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he took pride in ensuring the safe and timely delivery of every load. During his career as truck driver he, also, was a member of three local teamsters unions in Detroit MI and served as a union representative for many years.
Beyond his professional achievements, Sam was known for his warm and friendly personality. He had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and valued. His positive attitude and sense of humor brightened the days of those around him.
In his free time, Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and pursuing his hobbies. He had a passion for bowling and fishing which brought him joy and allowed him to unwind from the demands of the road.
Later in life he returned home to Alabama and join Greenwood Baptist Church, Lanett, AL, where he was apart of the male choir until his health started to decline.
Sam leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and kindness. His contributions to the transportation industry and the lives he touched will not be forgotten.
On Tuesday May 14, 2024 that big heart of his stopped beating at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery Alabama.
Sam leaves cherished memories to his son, Eric Lanier; two daughters, Deborah (Frank) Bodie, Kynita (Michael) Preston and his forever lady, Barbara Lanier; three grandchildren, De’rious, Mya and Mariah; siblings, Danny (Rose) Lanier, Harry Lanier, Timothy Lanier, Karen Lanier, Martin Lanier, Charles Lanier, Unica Lanier; one living aunt, Virginia Lanier; dear cousins, Pearline Houser, Cheryl Lash, Earnest Houser, Katie Lee, forever sisters-in-law, Marva Pollard, Rosa (Nameon)Harris, Mary (Jerome) Brown, Mary (Nathaniel) Reese; forever brothers-in-laws, Jackie (Melinda) Winters,Timmy Williams, Marvin Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. EST in the sanctuary of the Greenwood Baptist Church, 4829 Veterans Memorial Pkwy., Lanett, AL with Rev. Michael Winston, Pastor, Rev. Jackie Winters, Eulogist and Rev. Jerrell Winters, assisting. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. EST until 6:00 p.m. EST at the mortuary.
