Mr. Robert Lee “R L” Atkinson, 74, of Jonesboro, GA, formerly of West Point, GA passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 at Piedmont Henry Hospital, Stockbridge, GA.
A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Atkinson will be held at 2:00 pm, ET, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the St. John Baptist Church, Lanett, AL, with the Rev. Charles Trammell, Pastor, Rev. Billy Drakes, Sr., Eulogist, Rev. Elijah Jackson, Rev. Billy Drakes, Jr., Rev. Rodelle Poole, assisting.
Interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 1:00 pm, ET until the funeral hour.

Mr. Atkinson was born July 23, 1944 in West Point, GA to the parentage of the late Sandy (Sr.) and Ella Pearl Strozier Atkinson.
“R L”, as he was known by most, received his education in the West Point Public School System. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Robert was employed as a supervisor by Daniel Construction and later by Brown and Routh. He was an entrepreneur who owned RL Country’s Kitchen and RL Lawn Care.
A Legacy of unconditional love is entrusted to the following survivors: wife, Bernice Huguley Atkinson, Jonesboro, GA; two daughters, Toni (Tommy) Gilliam, and Germaine Atkinson-Henderson both of West Point, GA; one son, Bernard (Nicole) Ware, Hogansville, GA; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; two sisters, Liz Summers (Crawford) Lee, Jonesboro GA and Frances Hunter Malone, West Point, GA; two brothers, Emmanuel Atkinson, Jonesboro, GA and Morris (Glenda) Atkinson, Lithonia, GA; two sisters-in-law, Paulette Hill of Cincinnati, OH and Tina Jackson, LaGrange GA; one brother-in-law, Charlie (Linda) Chivers of Valley AL; special lifelong friend, Jack Barnes and devoted friends he met while living in Louisiana, August and Varilyn Roussell, Waggaman, LA, Rogers and Vanessa Wilson, Kenner, LA, Alfred and Edith Gross, Belle Chasse, LA and host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
