Mrs. Myrtis Chappell was born in Chambers County, Alabama, to the late Homer Mitchell and Laura Reese Mitchell on March 14, 1932. She answered her heavenly Father’s call and departed this life on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika, Alabama.
She was a product of the Chambers County School System and was employed by West Point Pepperell in Shawmut, Alabama as a warper attendant until retirement. She also worked at Happy Valley Daycare, Valley Haven School, and Ampex. Myrtis served as a domestic worker for many years.
She confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where she served faithfully until failing health.
Myrtis was joined in Holy Matrimony to Willie “Bill” Chappell who preceded her in death. To this union, their only son, Terry Chappell was born.
She was a dedicated member of the Adult Sunday School Class and Mass Choir. Annually, she participated in the Gala for Christ, Christmas Musical, for many years.

She loved to cook big Sunday dinners, bake cakes, and make homemade biscuits. Myrtis was a stylish and sharp dresser. Her suits had to match her hat, purse and shoes. She loved antiques, collectibles, and figurines.
