When she was two years old, her family moved to Lanett, Alabama, where she received her education at Lanier High School.

She was the matriarch of the Jerry Vines lineage, being the last and youngest of sixteen siblings. She was literally “Everybody’s Auntie”. Mrs. Mamie Lou chose to dedicate her life to Christ and joined the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Slaughter. Mrs. Winston had been a member of Ebenezer for ninety-one years. As a loyal and dedicated member, she served as President of the Missionary Society, President of the Usher Board, Chairperson of the Cuisine Committee for more than twenty years, Chairperson of the Easter and Fall Festival Refreshment Committee, a member of Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and an advisor of the Red Circle, Sunbeam, and Crusader Auxiliaries. She was the first Co-Director of the Bowen East District Usher Ministry, when Mrs. O.C. Hardy installed the Usher Auxiliary into the Bowen East District Association in 1998.

To forever cherish her wonderful memories and her great legacy are: seven children, Morris (Barbara) Winston, Jr., of Detroit, MI, Barbara Robinson of Philadelphia, PA, Diane Winston, Constance Wright, Lucy Robinson, Clarence Winston, and Patricia Davis, all of Lanett, AL; two daughters-in-law, twenty- seven grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, nineteen great-great- grandchildren; and a grand host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mrs. Mamie Lou Vines Winston was a very well-known domestic worker for over seventy years.
