Mr. Leon Reid was born on June 9, 1948, in West Point, Georgia, to the late Jessie Mae Wright Reid and Willie Reid, Sr. He peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, April 17, 2023, at his residence.
Leon confessed Christ at an early age while attending Love Union and later joined St. John Baptist Church, where he was a faithful, active member.
He was a 1966 graduate of Harrison High School. Leon's love for sports started at an early age while participating in track and field and baseball. He had an avid passion for sports that continued throughout his life, from playing travel softball with local clubs, being a domino men Club member, and supporting his children and grandchildren by attending all games no matter the destination.
Before his health declined, he attended the Alabama High School Basketball State Final Tournament in Birmingham, AL, annually. Regarding sports, Leon was a guru of knowledge, especially of the Auburn Tigers. Winning or losing season, Leon was a die-hard fan.
Leon was a pillar in the community. Willing to assist and help anyone. He worked in the textile industry for years.
Leon was preceded in death by his daughter, Leonda Murry Reid; siblings, Willie Reid, Jr., and Clarice V. Reid – Harper; and grandparents, Jesse and Lela Mae Wright.
Most importantly, he was family oriented and cared deeply for his family and friends. Leon is survived by his wife, Jackie Reid, and children, Shawn and Sonya, of Lanett, AL. He leaves to cherish his memories with his loving and devoted daughters: Corinthian (Tony) Tate of Daphne, AL, Carla (Alvin) Jackson of Lanett, AL, Veleria (Joseph) Floyd of Riverview, FL, and Marshonntri (Deryan) Austin of Atlanta, GA, one son Ken (Phebe) Warner of Valley, AL; special nephews, Kenneth (Valeria) Reid, Sr. of Melbourne, FL and Jesse (Alicia) Reid of Miramar, FL; one special sister in law, Evangelist Lucy A.
