Mrs. Katherine Simpson's life began on January 13, 1947, in Gold Hill, Alabama. She was born to the late Mr. Benjamin Askew and the late Mrs. Ada Mae Askew.
Katherine passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, January 19, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first-born daughter, Taius S. Simpson.
Katherine Simpson joined New Zion Baptist Church in Lanett, Alabama, at an early age and later became a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Lanier High School with the Class of 1964 and Tuskegee Institute with the Class of 1970. Her academic achievements paved the way for all five of her siblings to become college graduates.
She was employed by Allstate Insurance Company for many years until her retirement in 2014. Katherine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Herman Simpson of Atlanta, Georgia; two children, Terrion Simpson and Brandon Simpson of Atlanta, Georgia; one granddaughter, Briya C. Simpson of Atlanta, Georgia; three brothers, Benny (Bernice, deceased) Askew and Jimmy Askew, both of Lanett, Alabama, and Bobby (Jennifer) Askew of Atlanta, Georgia; three sisters, Lizzie (Preston, deceased) Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, Cynthia (Dale) Palm of Baltimore, Maryland, and Helen Thomas of Salem, Alabama; two sisters-in-law, Rosella (Larry) Calloway of Washington, Georgia, and Mildred Simpson of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother-in-law, James Simpson of Grovetown, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral Services
Funeral services for Mrs. Simpson will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (ET) in the sanctuary of New Zion Baptist Church, 1516 44th Avenue SW, Lanett, AL 36863, with Rev. Willie Atkinson, Pastor, officiating, and Miss. Terrica Wright, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Public Viewing and Visitation
Public viewing will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (ET) at the mortuary. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (ET) on the same day at the mortuary.
Final arrangements are entrusted to M.W. Lee Mortuary.

Prayers and condolences to Katherine's family. I worked with her at Allstate Ins. She spoke of her family and her love of sewing often. She was a joy to work with. I later met her husband Herman at Lockheed's Gift Shop she had told me years before that he was a Firemen at Lockheed.
