Mr. Charlie Lee “Big C” Winston, 79, of Brooklyn, NY, formerly of the Lanett(Shawmut) AL, transitioned on April 25, 2024, at his residence.
Mr. Charlie Lee Winston was born April 20, 1945 in Chambers County, Alabama. He was the son of the late Frank Winston, Sr., and Mary Lizzie Winston of Lanett, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Joe Winston, Eddie Winston, Frank Winston, Jr. and Eddie B. Winston. Charlie departed this life on April 25, 2024 at his residence in Brooklyn, New York.
Charlie, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Male Choir.
Charlie received his education from Rehobeth High School, where he was a member of the 1963 graduating class . He was a member of the varsity football team during his high school years.
On September 8, 1964, Charlie made a lifelong commitment of love and faithfulness to Linda Avery. To this union two children were born: Nalvolia and Demetrius.
Charlie was employed with the Williamsburg Steel Company for many years; he later went to work for the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority for 32 years, for where he retired.
Charlie leaves to cherish memories: his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Linda Avery Winston of Brooklyn, NY; devoted daughter, Nalvolia F. Brown; son, Demetrius L. (Doris Cann) Winston both of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren, Timothy Winston of North Carolina, Devon Winston on Philadelphia, PA, Bryant (Lekeya)Brown, Brandi Brown and Devin Winston all of Brooklyn, NY; great grandchildren, Riley Winston and Michael Ellis both of Brooklyn, NY; one sister, Mary Francis Winston of Indianapolis, IND; five sisters-in-law, Betty Jackson, of Houston, TX; Cindy Dix of LaGrange, GA, Vera(Neal)Winston of West Point, GA, Gloria Jones, Lanett, AL and Angela(Mark)Davidson of Atlanta, GA; one brother-in-law, Vernon Avery of West Point, GA; an array of nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, loved ones and dear friends; special friends, Claude Brooks, J.P. Ware, Bobby C. Stiggers and The Ramsey’s.
Funeral Services for Mr. Charlie “Big C” Lee Winston will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ET in the sanctuary of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 1601 Magnolia Drive, Lanett, AL with Bishop Donald Lancaster, Eulogist.
Interment will follow in the Marseilles Cemetery 400-498 East 12th Street, West Point, GA .
Public viewing will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
