Obituary For Betty Jean Phillips Newman

Born on May 8, 1933 to Wilson C Phillips and Clema Irene Shivers Phillips of Truett , AL, a small community located in Chambers County on the West side of the Tallapoosa River.

Mrs. Newman passed away in the early hours of Saturday, September 14, 2024 at LaFayette Nursing Home. Mrs. Newman is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 53 years, Gay Spencer Newman. She is survived by four children, James (Cathey) Newman of Wadley, Sarah Newman of Wadley, Janet (Anthony) Ison of LaFayette and John (Mandy) Newman of LaFayette. Mrs. Newman was MawMaw and Granny to 10 Grandchildren, Candie Ward, Randy Newman, Brian Sweatt, David Sweatt, Tanya Boone, Brandon Ison, Sami Jo Walker, Grace Brown, Morgan Newman and Spencer Newman. She was also MawMaw to 11 Great Grand Children and two Great-Great Grandsons.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 at 2:00 pm CST at Rock Springs Baptist Church, Reverend Veronica Rosely officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday September 16, 2024 at Rock Springs Baptist Church from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, prior to service.
