Mrs. Mildred Lou Winfield Horton, a resident of Columbus, GA, died Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Piedmont Regional Midtown Hospital, Columbus, GA.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. (EST) from Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel, 305 W. F. Burns Drive, Valley, AL 36854 with Rev. Roger Walker as Officiant/Eulogist.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Valley, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.
Public Viewing is scheduled for Friday, January 27, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary.
Mildred Lou Winfield Horton’s journey through life began on September 14, 1943--born to Mr. Rufus Winfield and Mrs. Eunice Dunn Winfield in Lee County, Alabama.
Mildred was a dedicated mother, first and foremost. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She loved to love on people and made friends everywhere. Mildred was a model of love, generosity, and compassion. She was a hardworking woman and worked tirelessly in every career she endeavored.
She was a praying woman. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23 and her favorite song was “Sinner’s Prayer” by Dietrick Hadden. She was a member of Church of God in Columbus, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, James Willie Horton; her parents, Rufus Winfield and Eunice Dunn Winfield; sons, Vincent James Horton and Michael Bernard Winfield; brothers, Charles Winfield, Sydney Winfield, Curtis Winfield, and Robert Winfield; sisters, Lila Pitts and Glennie Mae “Penny” Dent. Mildred Winfield Horton departed this life on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Piedmont Regional Midtown Hospital in Columbus, Georgia.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Elizabeth (Gregory) Murray, Valdosta, GA and Juanita Winfield, Columbus, GA; three sons, Willie (Monica) Horton, Columbus, GA, Daniel (Tashara) Horton, Houston, TX and Terry Horton, Orlando, FL; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lottie (David) Floyd, Valley, AL, Minnie Hollis and Johnny Winfield both of Columbus, GA and Ruby Parson, Austin, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
