Carter Funeral Home respectfully announces the transition of Mr. Henry C. Davis, 96, of Montgomery, Alabama.
Affectionately known as Henry C. "Red" Davis, Mr. Davis, a retired, educator, entrepreneur, civic and community leader in Bullock County, Alabama transitioned into eternity on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 while surrounded by members of his loving family
Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home, 302 Carter Street, Union Springs, AL. Mr. Davis will lie in repose one hour prior to Celebration of Life Services.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Bullock County High School Gymnasium, 911 Sardis Road, Union Springs, AL 36089. Words of comfort will be delivered by Rev. Fred Douglas, Sr., Pastor of the Mt. Silla Baptist Church, Union Springs, AL.
Interment with military honors will follow immediately afterwards at Mason Cemetery
In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests contributions be directed to the Henry C. Davis Scholarship Fund.
Our community, state and nation lost a rare and influential soul, in the passing of Mr. Henry Clinton Davis, 96, May 10, 2016, at his home in Montgomery, Alabama.
Born in Starkville, Mississippi, to Mr. W.H. Davis and Mrs. Cora Taylor Davis, he was raised by his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Eliza Taylor. Many life lessons were embedded in him in his early life from her and a host of other family members. Mr. Davis’s early religious affiliation was with the New Light United Methodist Church in Starkville.
Mr. Davis wore many hats and wore them well. He was a World War II Army veteran, a businessman, a teacher, a coach, an administrator, a member of the Bullock County Board of Education, a member of many other boards and councils, a father and husband, and a friend to many.
As a graduate of Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University), he instilled the dignity of work to the many students whom he taught in the span of 33 years in Bullock County, Alabama.
For 46 years Mr. Davis was married to Ms. Vivian Estell Nelson Seals. They had a precious and wonderful daughter, Ms. Vivian Davis Goshea. After the death of Mrs. Vivian Davis, he married Ms. Robbie Jordan Richburg, his wife of 16 years.
As Mr. Davis entered his eternal rest, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Robbie Richburg Davis; a daughter, Ms. Vivian Goshea; a son, Mr. Reginald Johnson (Diane), nephews, Mr. Oscar Gordan (Louise) and Mr. Alvin Davis Taylor (Awilda) and a host of other nephews, nieces and friends.
His extended family includes Mrs. Robyne Caffie, Ms. Mary Helen Douglas and Fredricka Douglas, Ms. Gloria Glaze, Ms. Ashley Glaze, Ms. Nadine Ivy, Mrs. Phyllis Matthews, Mr. Robert Matthews V, Mr. Randolph Young, and a host of others who considered him as a father figure.
