Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Mr. Darrick Calhoun of Fitzpatrick, AL. on February 17, 2023.
The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Friday, February 24, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
The Farewell Life Celebration at Graveside will be held Saturday, February 25, 2022, at 1:00 pm from the New Elam Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Mitchell Station Community. Dr. Timothy Blakely, Pastor of the Piney Grove #1 Missionary Baptist Church of Mathews will deliver the eulogy.
In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees are requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact.
Darrick Calhoun was born October 20, 1967 in Tuskegee, Alabama to Alice Calhoun and the late Calvin Calhoun Sr. Being born with big brown eyes, his dad gave him the name "Peanut" because peanuts were one of his favorite snacks. To family and Friends, he is still affectionately known as "Peanut."
Darrick attended the Macon County Alabama School System where he was a part of the Lean Mean Green Machine Marching Band. Darrick graduated with honors from D.C. Wolfe High School in Shorter, Alabama with the Class of 1986.
After graduation, Derrick joined the US Marine Corps where he served until his discharge. After taking some courses at Southern Vocational College in Tuskegee, Alabama. Darrick decided college was not for him. He liked being a skilled worker. He spe- cialized in horticultural and flooring installation but his heart was landscaping because he loved outdoors; whether it be landscap- ing, challenge the kids to racing, basketball game, etc. Darrick enjoyed learning new skills and excelled in whatever career path he chose.
Dudek was a sports fanatic. Basketball, football, racing, baseball and track and field. His all-time favorite sport was football espe- cially Alabama Crimson Tide Football, "Roll Tide."
Derrick was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Calhoun, Sr. and step mother Betty Calhoun; maternal grandparents Rufus and Annie Mae Murray; parental grandparents John and Cora Calhoun; father-in-law Donald Walker ; mother-in-law, Bertha (Otha)Townsend and brother-in-law Cedric Walker.
He leaves to cherish memories a loving and caring mother Alice Murray-Calhoun; his childhood sweetheart and wife, Yolanda Walker- Calhoun of Shorter, Alabama and to that union two children were conceived, a daughter, Tynesia Lashae Walker, Pike Road, Alabama and a son, Treyon Lamar Calhoun, Shorter, Alabama; two grandchildren (twins) Toriyah and Tory Walker, Pike Road,Alabama; two brothers Calvin Calhoun, Jr. (Tarressa) Mont- gomery,Alabama and Adrian (Tonya) Calhoun, Southfield, Michigan; four sisters, Cheryl (Michael) Reed ,Rebecca (Harvey) Parker ,Natasha F. Jackson and Annie M (Maria) Calhoun; two sis- ters-in-law ,Cassandra (Mark) Smith and Yvonne (Isaac) Robinson; two brothers-in-law, Donald (Ureaster) Walker and Stanley Townsend, Tuskegee, Alabama; two aunts,Willie Mae McGee Montgomery, Alabama and Ruthie Green, Birmingham Alabama ;Two uncles, Robert J. Murray Tuskegee, Alabama and Willie James Calhoun, Montgomery Alabama.
Also, to cherish his memories is a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
