Carter Funeral Home announces the transition of Mr. Alfonsa Don Martin of Union Springs, Alabama.
Mr. Martin, age 75, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, in Montgomery, AL. Known and loved as Don Martin, Mr. Martin loved the outdoors and was at peace and harmony with everything nature offered. He will always be remembered for his passion of hunting, fishing, and farming, especially his cattle herd and dogs. Mr. Martin was a decorated veteran of the United States Army.
The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Friday, March 31, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
The Farewell Life Celebration at Graveside, including the rendering of Military Honors will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 11:00 am from the Mason Cemetery of Union Springs, AL. The message of acceptance and family comfort will be provided by his son, Ray Scott.
In accordance with recommended COVID-19 Protocols, all attendees are requested to utilize appropriate facial coverings, maintain social distancing, and minimize physical contact.
ALFONSA DON MARTIN was born to the late W. C. and Varnseail Martin both of whom preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Carver High School in Union Springs, AL where he would excel in academics and sports. After graduation he was drafted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart from an injury sustained from a mortar round. He was also awarded the Bronze Star.
When he returned from the war, he became an independent cattle farmer. On this farm he raised numerous cattle and dogs of many breeds but mainly Beagles for his rabbit hunting. Don fished, he was an excellent pool shooter, and would even manage to find the time to maintain a small lawn service, but one of his passions was joking and laughing with his family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Kennyth Martin. Three sisters Mattie Martin, Hattie Dennis and Jeffie Martin Carther. Four brothers Fred Reynolds, Julian Martin, James Martin and Marvin Martin.
He leaves cherished memories to his loving wife Sanquirnetta Martin of Montgomery, AL., three sons Ray (Serena) Scott of Union Springs, AL., Raphael Martin (Felecia) Martin of Union Springs, AL., and Donn (Enrika) Martin of Union Springs, AL., one daughter Alsan Martin and one stepdaughter Charnetta (Jemmie) Hicks; three brothers Jimmy Martin, Claude (Ann) Martin, and Nathaniel (April) White and one sister Fairy Henry. Don also has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandkids and great grandkids.
