Nancy Sue Henson

08/27/1943 - 03/16/2025

Nancy Sue Rogers Henson passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, surrounded by family. Sue was born in Hayesville, North Carolina in 1943, the younger of two daughters. She was an accomplished dancer and pianist in her youth, valedictorian of her high school graduating class, and an avid college football fan, rooting for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Sue enjoyed flower gardening, travel, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as the years passed. With her beloved husband Bill, who preceded her in death, she raised five children, staying at home until she got them all through high school. She went to work as a part-time cashier at Sky City Discount Store, working her way up to management and pursuing a successful career in retail management in northeast Georgia. She and Bill retired to Elberton, Georgia, where they lived many happy years hosting kids and grandkids for joyous visits, especially “Camp Nana” in the summertime.

Sue was a member for many years of Hayesville Presbyterian Church in her hometown Hayesville, North Carolina. In her later years, she enjoyed watching the Rev. Charles Stanley’s televised church services. Sue was preceded in passing as well by her parents, Howard and Willie Rogers, her sister Sarah Nelle Rogers Burdette, her nephew David Burdette, an infant daughter, Darlene Gayle, and an infant granddaughter, Angela Renee. She is survived by her five adult children: Dr. Monica Henson of Monroe, Georgia; Lynn Henson Neal and her husband, Jim Neal, of Elberton, Georgia; Lisa Henson Holcombe of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Bill Henson, Jr., of Elberton, Georgia; and Matt Henson and his wife, Millicent Harris Henson, of Hoschton, Georgia. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren mourn her passing and celebrate the life of their precious Nana: James Neal and his wife Kari and daughters Zella and Ruthie of Thomasville, Georgia; Chris Neal and his wife Katie and daughters Emmie and Addie of Hoschton, Georgia; Alex Holcombe and wife Jenna and sons Brayden and Jackson and daughter Samantha of High Point, North Carolina; Zach Neal and fiancée Ashley Golden and sons Kyler and Maverick of Cumming, Georgia; Vicky Smith and husband Michael Yount of Asheville, North Carolina; Brook Smith and wife Gretchen Christie Smith and daughter Peyton of Monroe, Georgia; Nikki Holcombe Walker and husband Cory Walker and daughter Addison and son Wyatt of Slickville, Pennsylvania; Jonathan Holcombe, Christine Holcombe, and Jenna Dominiczak and her daughter Scarlett of Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Chase Henson and wife Lareina Bawayan Henson and sons Valerio and Julius of Athens, Georgia; Nick Neal and wife Brooke Evans Neal and son Phoenix of Winder, Georgia; and Riley Henson of Cullowhee, North Carolina.

Sue did not want a funeral, so immediate family will gather privately at a later date to inter her ashes at the Hayesville Baptist-Methodist Presbyterian Cemetery in Hayesville, North Carolina. Sue’s children are grateful to the staff of The Oaks at Limestone in Gainesville, Georgia, for the wonderful care and attention that their mother received in the final year of her life. Memorial gifts may be made in Sue’s name to the Pruitt Cares Foundation (https://pruittcares.org/).

The staff of Central Cremation Services is honored to be selected to provide end-of-life services.
