Charlie Evwin McCambry was born on September 21, 1937 in Grantville, GA. He was the youngest of 4 children, born to the late Clarence and Dasizell McCambry.

He attended School at the Grantville Training High School and on September 28, 1955 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served faithfully for 14 years and was honorably discharged on August 28, 1970. After which time he began his career at the Concord Navy Weapon Station until his retirement in 2000.

Ed met his wife Billie Jo in Berkeley, CA where she worked as a bank teller for Wells Fargo Bank. Together they had a blended family which included their daughter Myesha, his 3 oldest daughters Adrienne, Veronica, Kimberly, and Billie’s two oldest children Carolyn (Danzil) and Tony. Ed had a joy of fishing, reading, flying, playing piano, watching his Westerns, and good food. He was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend with a kind and gentle soul who tried his absolute best to not say an ill word. For example, if your cooking was bad, he would just look over your head, squint his eyes and say, “It’s ok.” and go back to eating his meal. Ed or lovingly called “Papa” or “Pops” would make anywhere his dancefloor, making everyone around him smile or laugh. After living in CA for several decades, Ed and Billie Jo moved back to Georgia where Ed later passed away after a short illness.

He is survived by a devoted wife of 19 years, Billie Jo, their daughter Myesha, 3 older daughters: Adrienne McCambry, Veronica Mixon, Carolyn Lyles-Barton (Danzil) and son Tony Lyles, 1 sister Vernia Arnold, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews and a devoted friend Sam Hill.

Both parents Clarence and Dasizell McCambry, siblings Clarence and Moszell Williams, and his loving daughter Kimberly preceded him in death.

Arrangements entrusted to Thrash and Sons Funeral Home.
