We regretfully announce the passing of Mrs. Betty Jean Owens, age 67, of Grantville, Georgia (Zion Hill Community) on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2950 Primrose Road in Greenville, Georgia.
Dr. E. L. Jimerson, Pastor, will officiate and interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Public viewing will be Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
A Time to Be Born: Mrs. Betty Jean Owens was born November 6, 1956 in Coweta County to Sam and Bessie Thornton.
A Time to Learn: Betty grew up in Moreland, Georgia where she was educated in the Coweta County School System.
A Time to Love: She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Mack Arthur Owens on June 28, 1973. To this union four sons were born: Michael, Ronald, McKinley and Derrick.
A Time to Serve: Betty joined the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She worked in the textile industry for a short period of time but spent most of time at home raising her children.
A Time to be at Peace: On Thursday, January 18, 2024, Betty made the transition to an eternal sleep at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Robert and James Thornton and Mary Ann Heard; grandson, Kendriun Owens; Mother-in law; Lorene Owens; Father-in-law, McKinley Colton.
A Time to Mourn: Those she leaves to cherish her precious memories include, her loving and devoted husband of fifty years, Mack Arthur Owens; children, Michael, Ronald, McKinley and Derrick (Carla) Owens; grandchildren, Zharia Huling, Derrick Tremetrius Owens, Kortavious Hardy, Travon Hardy and Joshua Marshall; great-grandchildren, Zayden Huling and Zyler Huling; siblings, Samuel โHenry Samโ Thornton, Thomas (Dorothy) Thornton, Curtis Thornton, Mattie (John) Rosser, Eula Nesbitt and Ollie Parks; step-mother, Eleanor Colton.
In-laws, Betty Glass, Gwendolyn Owens, Cythina (Bruce) Amey, Gwendolyn Colton, Gregory Colton and Dwight (Rosetta) Owens; Aunt, Sophia Cleveland; Sister-cousin, Mary Nell Rosser; God Children, Latonya Fuller, Christopher Owens and Darrell (Kimberlea) Owens and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and other relatives and friends.
