Horace Lewis Nixon

Horace Lewis Nixon of Valley, Alabama passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 at Lake Martin Community Hospital in Dadeville, Alabama.


Lewis was born in Troup County, Georgia on July 10, 1946, to the late Charles and Lucille Yates Nixon. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from West Point Stevens in 1998. Prior to his retirement, he was also a meat cutter at Kroger in LaGrange, a Deputy Warden at Troup County Work Camp, and a Troup County 911 Dispatcher.


Lewis was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sisters, Martha Colson and Sarah Kelley, his brothers, Wesley Nixon, William “Bo” Nixon, Johnny Nixon, Jimmy Nixon, and Ray Nixon. He is survived by one son, Michael Nixon and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a special niece, Kay Cagle, a loyal friend and neighbor, Dolly Knickerbocker, and a devoted caregiver, Jeth Bell.


Lewis was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed spending time with his friends at Sylvia Word Manor in Valley playing bingo and card games. He regularly attended church services held there. In his younger years, Lewis enjoyed playing piano which he learned to play by ear while sitting next to his mother as a small boy.


Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Restlawn Memory Garden in LaGrange, Georgia at 11:00 AM EST. Reverend Jody Mitchell will be officiating.


Services have been entrusted to Bluffton Funeral Services of Lanett, Alabama.
