Remonia Sloan

Progressive Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing Remonia Sloan age 85 of Columbus on May 3, 2021.

Columbus, Georgia - Remonia Lee Caldwell Sloan was born September 19, 1935 to Emmitt and Lena Caldwell in Orange County, NC, the fourth of eight children. She was educated in Durham City Schools and graduated from Hillside High School in 1955. She worked most of her adult life for the Muscogee School System as a Para-Professional from where she retired.

She married Joe C. Sloan July 31, 1958 in Durham, NC, and the family moved to Columbus, Georgia in 1959. She was an active military wife. She traveled with her husband on many occasions to his duty stations – Fort Dix, Fort Campbell, Hawaii, and Fort Benning where he eventually retired and made Fort Benning their home.

She loved her husband and children and enjoyed cooking and decorating.

Mrs. Sloan took her flight on Monday, May 3, 2021, after a short period of illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers (Lawrence and George Caldwell), and two sisters (Joyce Best and Emma Lou Dudley). She is survived by a devoted daughter, Lawanda R. Sloan; three sons Joe C. Sloan, Jr., David Sloan, and Dexter Sloan of Columbus, GA; three grandchildren, Tosha Gardner, Tanisha Sloan of Columbus, GA, and Jay Allen Sloan of Americus, GA.; one sister, Constance Caldwell of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Curtis (Dorothy) Caldwell of Raleigh, NC, and John (Brenda) Caldwell of Durham, NC.; one niece Barbara Gilchrist and one nephew Derrick (Tanya) Best of Durham, NC, and a host of relatives and friends.

There will be a visitation for Ms. Sloan will be Sun- day, May 9, 2021 beginning at 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Progressive Funeral Home
