Genevieve Winston Heard was born on April 10, 1933 in Lanett, AL to the late Early and Gennie Mae Winston. She departed this life on September 4, 2020 at WellStar West Georgia Hospice, LaGrange, GA.
Genevieve accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Greenwood Baptist Church, Lanett, AL. She later united with Bethlehem Baptist Church, West Point, GA. While worshipping at Bethlehem, Genevieve served as a deaconess, matron and a member of the senior choir.
Genevieve attended Lanier High School in Lanett, AL.
Genevieve was united in holy matrimony to Willie Lee Heard Sr. and to this union seven children were born.
She worked for West Point Pepperell, Shawmut Mill, until her retirement.
Genevieve’s passion was cooking, singing, and caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Heard Sr.; her siblings, Jessie Winston, Arrie Winston Truitt, Frances Winston Boyd, Earl Winston, Welzy Winston, Dorothy Winston Thompson, Betty Winston Ware.
She leaves to cherish her memories: four sons, Willie Jr. (Sylvia) Heard, Auburn, GA, Broderick(Yvette)Heard, Lanett, AL, Benjamin Heard, Smyrna, GA, and Stanley(Valerie) Heard, LaGrange,GA; three daughters, Beverly Ball and Lana Williams, Montgomery, AL, Jacqueline Lovelace, LaGrange, GA; seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred(J.C.)Whitlow and Mattie(Willie R.)Goss, Lanett, AL; one brother, Lamar Winston, Montgomery, AL; one sister-in-law, Vasti Strickland, Chattanooga, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, neighbors, and special neighbors, Martha Shipman, Frances Huguley and son, Nonnie Huguley.
Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. EST in the Marseilles Cemetery with the Dr. W. T. Edmondson serving as the Eulogist and Rev. Tommy Gilbert , Assisting.
Public viewing will be on Thursday from 2:00 p.m until 6:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
